Matthias Coers – unabhängiger Filmemacher und Soziologe, Berlin.
Matthias Coers arbeitet als unabhängiger Filmemacher und Soziologe. Als freiberuflicher Journalist und Kameramann produziert er Fotos, Texte und Videos u.a. mit Gewerkschaften, Mieter-, Geflüchteten- und ökologischen Organisationen, der AIDS-Hilfe und für Magazine und Zeitungen.
Er kooperiert mit partizipativen Initiativen, organisiert Vorträge und Veranstaltungsreihen zu den Schwerpunkten Stadtentwicklung, Soziale Infrastruktur und Erinnerungskultur.
Seit der Premiere des Dokumentarfilms MIETREBELLEN – Widerstand gegen den Ausverkauf der Stadt im Frühjahr 2014 hat er über 200 Vortrags- und Filmveranstaltungen in über achtzig Städten abgehalten. Der Film wurde in 20 Ländern projiziert und liegt in neun Sprachen vor – zuletzt kam Farsi hinzu.
Matthias Coers ist zuständig für die Bildredaktion des Berliner MieterEchos, hält Lecture Screenings zum Thema Wohnen und ist seit langem tätig für das European Media Art Festival. 2016 und 2018 war er Mitglied der Berlinale Friedensfilmpreis-Jury.
Derzeit arbeitet er filmisch zu den Themen Wohnraumfrage in Berlin, Housing in Europe und soziokulturelle Zentren in Deutschland.

Matthias Coers works independently as filmmaker and sociologist. As a freelance journalist and cameraman, he produces photos, texts and videos for trade unions, tenant organisations, the AIDS aid and newspapers, among others.
He cooperates with participative initiatives, organizes lectures and series of events focusing on urban development, social infrastructure and commemorative culture.
Since the premiere of the documentary „RENT REBELS – Resistance against the sell-out of the city“ in spring 2014, he has held over 200 lectures and film events in over eighty cities. In e.g. Moscow, Naples or Vienna, at the invitation of scientific conferences, political organisations, the
Goethe-Institut, citizens and experts were informed about the neighbourly commitment in the metropolis Berlin. The first feature film produced in co-direction is shown at international film festivals, has over two hundred cinema screenings in Berlin, projections in 20 countries and is currently subtitled in the nineth language.
Matthias Coers is responsible for the photo editorial department of the Berliner MieterEcho, the newspaper of the Berliner MieterGemeinschaft e.V., holds lecture screenings on the topic of housing and has been working for the European Media Art Festival for a long time. In 2016 and 2018 he was a member of the Berlinale Peace Film Award jury.
Since spring 2017 his new documentary DAS GEGENTEIL VON GRAU, produced in cooperation with RIght to the City Ruhr, has been shown countrywide and in cinemas. The film tells the story of open space and residential battles, solidary agriculture and the Refugees‘ Kitchen.
The short platform film DYSTOPOLIE premiered in May 2018.
Currently he is working on the topics of housing in Berlin, the history of anti-fascism in Western Germany and housing in Europe.
